Evolution of Coastal Sediment Stores & Sinks Study

The primary aim of this project was to identify sediment stores and sinks across the SCOPAC region for future recycling operations. There are large cost savings to be had by using locally sourced material for beach replenishment and recycling schemes.

The final report including all appendices relating to the whole SCOPAC coastline can be download below, together with the beach volume change spreadsheet:

Fly-through Video

The movie below presents the final sediment stores and sinks across the SCOPAC coastline. The fly-through shows the following:

Beaches

Beach accretion is shown for the earliest to most recent epoch with management practices removed.

The scale of the mapping does not lend itself well to presenting the beach stores, however, the detail can be found in Section 3.1 and Appendix E of the Final Report (PDF, 700Mb).

Ebb tidal deltas

Ebb tidal delta accretion is shown for the earliest to most recent epoch which varies for each site. Further information can be found in Section 3.2 of the Final Report (PDF, 700Mb).

Landward sinks

Constant areas and areas of gain in sediment for earliest to most recent available data. Further information can be found in Section 3.3 of the Final Report (PDF, 700Mb).

Offshore shoals

Constant areas and areas of gain in sediment are shown for earliest to most recent available data. Further information can be found in Section 3.4 of the Final Report (PDF, 700Mb).
